All is Forgiven

On College Gameday, Lou Holtz said the most impressive player this weekend was UCLA QB Ben Olson (25-33 318 yds, 3TDs, 0 Int). Nice pick, Lou. You now get a free pass on any stupid things you say for the rest of the season.

Mark May, however, is beyond redemption.

Unfortunately, I have horrible, horrible news to report. It looks like rain in Miami, which means the coeds in the stands will likely be heavily, heavily bundled. Tho there is about a 1% chance that a wet tshirt contest could break out. Hmmm..maybe this ESPN Full Circle isn't such a bad idea afterall.

Will the Bruins have an running game at all this year?

I was totally wrong about the Bruins. But Olsen will see a lot of blitzing this year. So far, so good for the Uclans.

Well, I picked Utah too, so I clearly misread this team.

As for the running game, Shannon Tevaga is supposed to be one of the best linemen in the country, and in the bowl game vs Northwestern, Chris Markey and Khalil Bell both had strong showings- so the potential is there. From reading the postgame interviews w/ the offensive linemen, Utah was running a lot of stunts and twists up front and it was confusing the Bruins blocking assignments on running plays. UCLA coaches need to correct that. The Bruins have Rice next, so that should be an opportunity for the running game to get some confidence.

I wouldn't panic just yet. I am much more excited by the poise Ben Olson showed than I am worried about the running game. I also like what I saw from Brandon Breazell and Logan Paulsen in the receiving corps. Now we'll just have to see how Olson responds when teams start blitzing him.

Lou Holtz is senile. I don't think he knows where he is.

I have no clue how Mark May has been able to rise to prominence within ESPN. While I agree w/ the earlier comments that Lou Holtz is better suited for a retirement home, I can at least understand why a network would hire him. But Mark May? Not only does he get worse each year, but his confidence seems to be growing each year- which means he's much more forthright in his idiotic predictions and proclamations.

But like you said sprtspych, May is the norm, not the exception at ESPN. Sometimes I think the network is intentionally screwing with the viewers because they know we really have no choice but to watch.
