The Ugliest Classic Ever

I lost 5 hours of my life watching the FedEx Orange Bowl-with an average of one well run play and four penalties an hour- so I might as well comment on it.

College football needs to tweak the overtime/tie rule. There should still be an OT after a tie in regulation. But if the score for the first OT is 0-0, the game should end in a tie. No winner. You've heard coaches and announcers say after a hard fought game that neither team deserved to lose. Well this time, neither team deserved to win thegame, which featured 4 missed field goals and a missed extra point.

After Penn State made a great defensive stand in the first overtime, holding Florida State to a long field goal attempt that ended up wide right, JoePa elected to call three running plays into the line and then kick. The football gods frowned on this act of cowardice- if you're afraid to lose the game, then the fear is contagious throughout the team. Penn State's attempt went wide left and justice was served.

When asked by Erin Andrews to comment on his strategy at the end of the game, Joe Paterno said, "Git off my lawn! Git!" Andrews tried to explain that the grass in front of him was actually a football field and not his front yard, but by that time, JoePa was threatening to get his shotgun.

Still, the Florida State offense was so inept that it didn't matter how many opportunities they were given, they were committed to losing. Eventually, they accomplished their goal in the 3rd OT- missing another field goal and their chance to go home with a bowl of fruit. Final score: 26-23.

The game ended at 1 am EST. In my mind Erin Andrews left the game, went to the nearest club in Miami, and did body shots off of FSU student Jenn Sterger.
